About Butcher's Tears brewery
It all started as an illegal brewing for one of the art spaces in Amsterdam by three friends from Sweden and Germany. In 2013 they decided to scale up and make it official. That was the time when they found a place in an old building in the south of Amsterdam. The new home for the brewery has its' issues, such as unstable power and water supply, that makes it more challenging for the new owners. But at the same time, it makes the results more precious and valuable.
All three founders, Eric (who is the master brewer and also a musician), Felicia (still teaches art at the art school) and Jan (a graphic designer who is taking care of all business development) wanted to create a space for everybody to fit in. A place where you never know what to expect, besides great beers of course. And as a result of several years of their hard work now Butcher's Tears is a well-known bar for its'one of a kind atmosphere, favourited by many locals and city guests.

With lots of knowledge about the brewing process, guys at Butcher's Tears brewery constantly experimenting, trying different recipes, new flavours, new or well-forgotten techniques.
For example, they have reproduced the Barclay Perkins standard porter recipe from 1832 in their "Monster Soup TT". Recreated it with birch-smoked brown malt courtesy of Pendergast. The result is fantastic.
"No Hops for the Kids" - a mellow, slightly fruity blond ale with the particular aromatic scent of bog myrtle, a plant that was frequently used in medieval times to flavour ale, as an alternative to hops. Brewed completely without hops, for this one we have used bog myrtle, handpicked in the Scandinavian forests, to lend both bitterness and aroma. You can check Butcher's tears website with an updated list of beers they have in stock and plan on brewing in nearest future.

But amazing beers and cool stories behind them are not the only things that make Butcher's Tears brewery so attractive.
From Wednesday to Sunday there is always some funky stuff going on at the bar, from exhibitions and different performances, to live music concerts and some crazy rave parties. You name it - they have it. Check brewery Facebook page for all the upcoming events and come join us there and share a few great beers with us!
