Prescribed Spirits Gin
About Prescribed Spirits
Prescribed Spirits started in 2015 in Ft Lauderdale, Florida from an idea which was distilled and aged for about five years by the founder A.J. Fazendin. At the moment Prescribed Spirits produces two hand-crafted types of gin - American Gin and Barrel Finished Gin.
Prescribed Spirits Story
Prescribed Spirits fascinating story started with a man and his idea. AJ Fazendin, a chef with over than 10 years of experience once visited his aunt and uncles in Seattle where they were making their own wine. A few doors down the street there was a distillery. It was not anything fancy, just a small operation using make shift kitchen appliances. That was the place where the idea got planted into AJ's mind.
Upon his return to Colorado, AJ started his experiments with brewing and distilling. In 2014, when he moved to Miami and took the position of Sous Chef working for Celebrity Chef Michal Mina at the prestigious Fontainebleau Resort on Miami Beach, AJ started looking for a distillery to work at. And he was lucky enough to make an agreement with South Florida Distillers who were only starting at that moment. And that is when Prescribed Spirits came to fruition.
Prescribed Spirits American Gin was finally released at the Craft Spirits Festival on October 7, 2015. A few months later AJ left cooking at Fontainebleau to pursue Prescribed Spirits full time. He put some gin into brand new oak barrels a few months after he finished the American Gin to see what would happen. He tasted the barrels every few weeks to learn how the gin would age and develop. AJ decided to pull the barrels and bottle them around 6 months. When the gin had reached a nice oaky and vanilla flavor, without losing the notes of the gin and that is how he came up with Prescribed Spirits Barrel Finished Gin.
In the first year of Prescribed Spirits AJ Fazendin was able to come out with two unique and tasteful gins. Open over 75 accounts from Miami to Jacksonville as well as get into two of the largest liquor stores in the state.
It took five years from the idea to the actual conception of the business. Passion, commitment, and dedication to his dream let AJ Fazendin transform it into a real thing.
